International Clown Week
Seeing as the first week of August is International Clown Week- why don?t you and your children have a clown themed arts and crafts day- you could make Clown Ice Cream?s, Clown shaped biscuits, dress up as a clown for a day and even paint your faces clown-like! Or if you want something even simpler; paint a clown picture or do a clown collage! Fun-filled and your children will be entertained for hours.
Ice Cream Sandwich Day
August 2nd is National Ice Cream Sandwich day and what better way to celebrate than creating a Pop Art painting of ice cream- get all the family involved and paint pictures of a different ice cream treat on A3 paper; first sketch the picture with a pencil and then fill in with paint. Fun filled for all the family- you could even make it into a competition; who has the best painting?
Friendship Bracelets
August 2nd is also Friendship Day- you can share these bracelets with your friends at school and make the other kids jealous when you turn up with such a funky, colourful friendship bracelet on your wrist! They are fun and easy to make; chose embroidery thread in a variety of colours, chose as many strands as you want, measure and cut the strands, tie the strands in a knot and pin them to a stable surface, spread the strands out, continue knotting the threads around the threads left to right, continue knotting until the bracelet is the right length. You can add beads on too if you want.
Rock your friendship bracelets!
Watermelon Crafts
Celebrate National Watermelon Day on August 3rd with a fun arts & crafts activity. You need half a paper plate and red & green tissue paper. Cut the red and green tissue paper and glue down on the paper plate so it looks like a watermelon. You will need a small amount of black paper or your fingerprints and black paint to make seeds.
National Smile Week
It?s also National Smile week in August; perfect way for you and your children to get creative. You could make yummy smiley face treats including, cookies, biscuits, cupcakes and cakes. You could use a variety of different ingredients and sweets to create your very own unique smiley face.
You could participate in a smile competition- get the family around and see who can hold their smile for the longest, whoever wins gets a prize and whoever looses can do a forfeit!
Or simply- sit around as a family and all say one thing that makes you smile and try and do that one thing all day, your day will be a lot more fun than usual!
